ABOUT

"In my work as a poet and musician, I have come to realize that the hard-working troubadours who live their lives on the road, are quite often great writers of poetry and prose as well. Mezcalita Press proudly publishes the carefully selected poetry, short stories, and nonfiction of artists who want to add a book—or many books—to their public presence and product tables."

    - Nathan Brown

Run by partners Nathan and Ashley Brown, Mezcalita Press publishes the work of artists and musicians from all over the country. They believe in the power and importance of well-written words, and strive to bring poetry and writing that is accessible and meaningful to all types of readers.

Nathan Brown is an author and singer-songwriter, who served as the Poet Laureate of Oklahoma for 2013-2014. He and his wife Ashley now live in Wimberley, Texas. Nathan travels widely, offering readings, house concerts, creativity workshops, and musical performances in an effort to bring back the hint of a smile and the hope for a good story in poems. . . poems unafraid of making sense. . . poems that carry us to better places.

Ashley Brown has nurtured her love for words and music in a variety of ways. She was a high school English teacher for seven years in Houston, working as the late and beloved Jimmy LaFave’s agent on the side for a time. She teaches online for the University of Oklahoma, works as the director of TutorPUG—a company providing tutoring to students in Oklahoma, offers private instruction in writing and college essays to students, and works as a freelance editor and writer.
